The Wine
The wine opens with floral notes – purple roses, jasmine blossoms and lavender. Fruit notes bring some bright raspberry, blueberry and blackberry. This is followed by the spice notes – coriander, fennel, cinnamon and licorice. It has a feminine mouthfeel, with dry, silky tannins.
Pleasantly drinkable now, this wine will really shine in 15-20 years.
The grapes came from the Thompson Vineyard
in the new Alisos Canyon AVA. Wedged between the Santa Maria Valley to the north and the Santa Rita Hills to the south, just outside of Los Alamos, it experiences warmer days and cool evenings that slows ripening and allows for greater complexity in every grape. The fruit for this wine came from rows in the original Block 1, planted some 30+ years ago.
The Winery
The Nahigian family launched this winery in 2018, the year of their sons birth. They say it was because he needed to have a magnum from his birth year in 2039, but there are waaaay easier ways to accomplish that, for a LOT less money! In truth, they are passionate about wine and the pursuit of that unattainable ideal – recreating that first “aha” moment when they had a great Petite Sirah.
