Can Chardonnay in Burgundy have a big heart? Can it be ebullient, compelling, evocative of its terroir but with a light touch? Saint-Romain is a village in Burgundy that up until recently wasn’t well-regarded: too cold, too close to the forest, rendering thin, acidic wines… Now that climate change has altered a lot of those traditional views on certain pockets of any given wine region, people in the area have realized how precious these overlooked places can be. Pierre-Henri’s Saint-Romain blanc is a joy to us: proof that Chardonnay is a grape to be tilted toward elegance and intensity, without weight, without makeup.
