Mezcalosfera ‘Meliton Jarquin’ Madrecuixe

Mezcalosfera de Mezcaloteca is well-known in Oaxaca City for sourcing all of their agave spirits directly from producers in seldom-traveled parts of Oaxaca that are often hard to get to. This one is produced by Maestro Mezcalero Meliton Jarquin, and is made entirely out of Madrecuixe – a type of maguey which often renders a lighter, fresher mezcal than its more robust cousin, Espadin. True to form, this mezcal is herbal and fresh, with some slight agave sweetness balanced by a mild earthiness and white flower notes – a far cry from some super-smoky one-note mezcals we’ve seen.
