The Wine
A vibrant, mineral-driven Riesling from Germanys Pfalz region. Look for crisp acidity, apple and stone fruit aromatics, a hint of wet slate (like washing a dusty chalk board) and a dry, refreshing finish. 12.5% ABV
Pairs well with spicy dishes (Asian food is our go-to pairing for Riesling) or any dish with pronounced citrus – salads with lemon vinaigrette, lemon-roasted poultry, or baked salmon topped with lemon slices.
The Winery
Founded in 1758, the winery is now managed by father-son team of Franz and Matthias Kimich (7th and 8th generation of the Kimich family). This small family affair consists of about 30 acres of vineyards across three regions within the Pfalz. Their total production is about 8,000 cases.
The Pfalz region is Germany’s second-largest, known for its Riesling and Pinot Noir (aka, Spatburgunder). Located in the Southwest corner of the country, it is next to the Alsace region, with traditions and foods influenced by this French neighbor. One of Germany’s warmest regions, grapes here are able to attain full phenolic ripeness and offer a broader palate experience than their cool climate siblings. A great place to visit, Pfalz is home to the German Wine Route, a scenic drive lined by vineyards, castles and quaint villages, all surprisingly welcoming to foreign tourists!
