Volnay is Pommard’s lighter, more perfumed neighbor, and Ez Blanches sits high on the slope on lean, pale soils — the lieu-dit name itself nods to the white limestone underneath. Éric Boigelot works small parcels here in a traditional, low-intervention key, and the result is everything Volnay should be: silky, floral, lifted, with red-fruit transparency and a fine-boned structure. A village-level bottling that drinks like it should cost considerably more, and a lovely introduction to one of the Côte de Beaune’s most aromatic communes.
