The Wine
The surprisingly affordable Pinot Noir features bright acidity and a structure that effortlessly balances mouth-watering freshness with palate-pleasing notes of fruit and earth. Soft and silky in texture, it is an approachable wine with classic pinot markers such as tart cherry, savory herbs, brambleberry, and hints of warm-from-the-oven spiced plums.
Pinot Geek Info – The grapes used in making this wine were sourced exclusively from the winery’s estate Vineyards in the Gavilan mountains, 20 miles East of Monterey Bay. The 2022 vintage is a blend of Pinot Noir clones with an emphasis on the Dijon clones – 115, 777 & 828 – with small additions of heritage clones.
After being gently crushed, de-stemmed, each lot was fermented separately in open-top tanks on native yeasts. After pressing, the wine was transferred to French oak barrels where it aged forten months before being bottled.
The Winery
With a vineyard that was first planted in 1849, Eden Rift’s mountain vineyard was farmed by the Valliant family during the 1930s and 1940s. The Valliant wines pay tribute to their pioneering spirit and reflect a continuum of enological efforts along California’s dramatic Central Coast – terrain featuring coastal mountains, situated atop the Pacific Plate, a tectonic plate of lifted seabed, along the Golden State coastline.
