The Wine
Chateau Laubarit Bordeaux Rouge is a classic blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot from vineyards that have been certified Biodynamic. Aromas of red fruits (mostly cherry) and dark plums combine with spiced currants, all with added complexity from hints of wet gravel, tobacco, and sweet spices.
Native yeast, fermented to complete dryness, bottled without filtering and with minimal SO2 addition at bottling.
The Winery
This winery is found in a sub-region of southern Bordeaux called
Entre-deux-Mers, which translates as “between the two seas”, though in fact, the region is between two RIVERS. Both are quite large, however, so perhaps we can forgive the lack of specificity in the naming.
The two rivers in question here are the dominant bodies of water flowing into the Atlantic – the Garonne and the Dardogne, which define Bordeaux famed Southwestern and Northeastern regions – the left bank and the right bank. This region is home to some very affordable wines, not all of which are good, though I’ve enjoyed watching the quality improve over recent decades.
Though the AOC “Entre-deux-Mers” is for white wines, growers have planted huge areas of red grape vineyards, labeling their wines as simple Bordeaux Superieur.
