About the Winemaker
Presqu’ile Winery is a family-owned estate in Santa Maria Valley, founded by the Murphy family in Santa Barbara County, California.
The name ‘Presqu’ile’ (French for ‘almost an island’) honors the family’s New Orleans heritage. Led by winemaker Dieter Cronje, who joined in 2007 after growing up on farms in South Africa and earning a master’s in viticulture and oenology from Stellenbosch University, the winery has earned numerous accolades including Best of Appellation and Best in Show at the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition.
Farming & Cellar: The estate encompasses 73 acres of organically farmed vineyards at elevations between 600-800 feet. Their commitment to Burgundian and Rhône varieties benefits from the cool Pacific influence and diatomaceous earth soils, producing wines of elegance and complexity.
