58% Grenache, 35% Syrah, 4% Mourvdre, and 3% Tempranillo
Dan and Donna Lee opened the doors of Morgan Winery in 1982. They fell in love with the Santa Lucia Highlands after several years of sourcing fruit from around California and decided to commit, purchasing the Double L Ranch in 1996. Since then, Morgan has become one of the Central Coasts most respected labels. Today the Double L is one of the best known vineyards in California. Conscientious, innovative farming regimens in combination with traditional, minimalist winemaking techniques create wines of balance, elegance and distinction. Their Cotes du Crows red is a unique homage to the Rhne Valley, blending the classic Grenache and Syrah with small amounts of Mourvdre and Tempranillo. After fermentation, the wine is transferred to French oak barrels, giving subtle spice and vanilla characters without overpowering the elegant fruit profile.
This Rhne-style blend has a rich ruby color, highlighted by purple edges. Aromas of boysenberry, bramble, and tobacco jump out of the glass. This full bodied wine has rich tannins and offers flavors of black fruits, damp earth, and chocolate covered cherry.
Well suited for everyday enjoyment, this wine pairs well with an evening in watching movies or with a backyard barbeque. We love it with bacon wrapped dates, lamb burgers, or a well made steak.
